New Mexico Squash Racquets Association
Hello New Mexico Squashers…
The league seems to been too much of a commitment at this point and it’s a bit late to organize it for this fall. We might consider it for the spring. But, in the mean time…There will be several "Open House" nights before Christmas. The first will be at El Gancho on Tuesday November 4th from 5:30 till 9. There will be a special "handicap" tournament of dubious structure, along with some games based on drills, referee advice, fun clinic, beer, pizza, prizes. Everyone who wants to come is invited. All skill levels, all ages, all genders, NMSRA members or not.
I hope that most of you are aware that one of the benefits of memberships is the video library that the NMSRA is building. Currently we have the three volume "Power Squash" training series, the four volume 2000 Tournament of Champions, several vintage US and Boston Open tapes (donated to the NMSRA by one of our members) and just in; the 2001 YMG Toronto Open with 6 volumes, including woman superstar Sarah Fitz-Gerald. These tapes are available at no charge for a two-week period to any of our members. Contact the librarian, Walter.
Do not forget that the 7th Not The Vegetable softball singles tournament is at El Gancho on January 23-25, 2004. Men, women skill levels and age groups. Contact Walter at this email address. Remember you Mother always said: "Don't play with your vegetables. Play Squash!"
My son, Jeremy and I plan to make the trip to Seattle for the US Nationals March 17-21, 2004. This is a great event that I will write about later to try to entice others along on the trip. This will be my 4th time to the Nationals and Jeremy's 3rd. I'm hoping that my 80+ father will make it out to play so that the Burkes can have 3 generations playing. It is a great opportunity to see squash at all levels. These are the best men and women pros in the country, plus all skill levels and age groups for men and women. You all know what a squash junkie I am, and this is like walking into the proverbial candy store. Plus you get to play! There are no entry pre-requisites. Nothing is going on in March anyway, so get out of town and play some Squash.
Many of you may not be aware that I sell and string squash racquets. I have demos of many of the models so that you can try them our before you buy. The prices are better or equal to the internet and I have most models in stock. I carry Head, Dunlop, Black Knight, Harrow, Bancroft and Karakal. I'll have them at El Gancho on November the 4th.
